Golf4Warriors 10: Major Success and Fond Reflection of the Us4Warriors Journey

On March 29, Us4Warriors hosted the monumental 10th Annual Golf4Warriors: Battle Bogey Tournament at the Chula Vista Golf Course, located at 4475 Bonita Rd, Bonita, CA 91902. This event, which has become a mainstay and key fundraising effort for Us4Warriors, brought together golfers, volunteers, and community supporters for a special day filled with golf, camaraderie, and support for our military and veteran families.

The tournament was a tremendous success, and Us4Warriors extends heartfelt thanks to the sponsors who made this possible: Kaiser Permanente, Dexcom, Advance Plastics, Sayres Defense, Temp Power Systems, RemotelyMe, CoreVictus Solutions, Viejas, Callaway Golf, Veltmeyer Institute, Local Umbrella Media, Hardware Solutions, Optimum Benefit, Nix Termite, North Island Credit Union, Elks Lodges of South Coast District 1120, Healcove Chiropractic, Charity Golf International, Back Swing Golf, Elite Island Resorts, and many others.

Participants enjoyed a range of exciting contests, including the LPGA Beat the Pro challenge with Ellie Slama and the Long Drive Champion contest featuring Boden Lafko. The event was not only about competition but also about community and giving back.

A Legacy of Love and Support

The Golf4Warriors: Battle Bogey Tournament has been a cherished event since its inception in the first year of Us4Warriors. The late Manuel "Manny" Otero Jr. and Us4Warriors Co-founder Tony Stewart envisioned an event that would raise funds for the organization’s programs while providing a fun-filled day of golf and activities for warriors. Their experience in organizing similar events culminated in the creation of Golf4Warriors.

Over the years, the tournament has grown, featuring contests for the best dressed and best team names, hole-in-one challenges, putting contests, and more. The "Sponsor-a-Warrior" initiative has allowed donors to support warriors with medical or financial challenges, ensuring they can participate alongside supporting companies and community teams.

In late 2018, the event faced a significant loss with the passing of Manny Otero. To honor his legacy, the tournament introduced the Manny Otero Memorial Cup, a perpetual trophy awarded to the first-place team each year, and a special Manny Otero Memorial Hole, ensuring his memory continues to inspire and watch over the efforts.

Overcoming Challenges

The COVID-19 pandemic brought unprecedented challenges, leading to the cancellation of the 2020 tournament. However, recognizing the commitment of many supporters, Us4Warriors hosted a secondary day of golf in the fall for those who had supported the canceled event. In 2021, the tournament returned with limited capacity and strict safety protocols, becoming the first tournament held at the course since the pandemic began.

By 2022, Golf4Warriors was back in full swing with a new course and numerous activities, raising vital funds to support Us4Warriors’ programs that help troops, veterans, and their families live stronger lives.

Looking Forward

As we celebrate the success of the 10th Annual Golf4Warriors: Battle Bogey Tournament, we are reminded of the incredible impact of community support and the enduring legacy of Manny Otero. Us4Warriors remains committed to its mission, and with the continued support of our sponsors, volunteers, and participants, we look forward to many more years of making a difference.

As we look towards the year 2025, all are reminded that these amazing efforts are part of the legacy and fabric of Us4Warriors and it takes us all to help keep the mission going.
