In a powerful display of unity and gratitude, the City of Chula Vista came together with the Us4Warriors Foundation on May 16th, 2023, to officially declare the month of May as Military Appreciation Month. The Mayor and City Council recognized the invaluable contributions of present and past service members, honoring their dedication and sacrifice.
The Us4Warriors Foundation, a non-profit charity dedicated to supporting military personnel, veterans, and their families, proudly accepted the proclamation on behalf of Chula Vista Military and Post Service Veterans. This proclamation signifies the City's deep appreciation for the armed forces and the profound impact they have made on the community.
Joining forces with the Us4Warriors Foundation were active duty military members from the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN-72), USS SPRUANCE (DD-963), and the Southwest Regional Maintenance Center San Diego. These brave men and women, representing the best of our nation's armed forces, stood as a testament to the unwavering commitment of our military.
The Us4Warriors Foundation was also delighted to be joined by their esteemed legacy partners from The American Legion, through the local Chula Vista Post 434. On hand were Post Commander Dana Davies and Past Post Commander Linda Sundberg, along with a dedicated team of local veteran legionnaires, united in support of military and veterans causes, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie.
Spearheading the City Council's proclamation ceremony was Chula Vista Mayor John McCann, a decorated Iraq War veteran and a Commander in the United States Navy Reserves. Mayor McCann, has also served as an Advisory Board member of Us4Warriors, and epitomizes the spirit of service that defines both Us4Warriors and the Chula Vista. Presenting the proclamation was Councilmember Andrea Cardenas of Chula Vista District 4.
Mayor McCann praised the collaboration, stating, "This proclamation signifies our commitment to supporting our military and veterans, reminding us all of the profound debt of gratitude we owe to those who have served and continue to serve."

As a member of the Chula Vista City's Veterans Advisory Commission and the San Diego County's Veterans Advisory Council, Stewart has worked tirelessly to ensure that the needs of the military community are met with compassion and support, especially for the City of Chula Vista. In addition, he serves on the board of the Chula Vista Veterans Home Support Foundation as well to continue the support for those who have served.
"Service means a great deal to Us4Warriors and the City of Chula Vista," said Stewart, "there is a lengthy legacy of action and support for our fellow military and veterans community members, including their amazing families, who have all sacrificed to preserve the values and comforts we hold dear."
